EDITOR, THE RECORD
	I recently read two Letters to the Editor that I wish to respond to.  One was the September 16th issue entitled �Stand firm on founders� Christian ideals� and the other was the September 17 issue, entitled �She longs for the good old days�.

	First let me say that our founding fathers did not establish this country on Christian doctrine.  They were men who identified themselves as deists to establish their belief in God but also to disassociate themselves from any specific religious doctrine in the hope of establishing a democratic society in which all people were free to practice religion without fear of reprisals.

	The �good old days�, in my opinion, had some disturbing aspects. Women had to have illegal abortions and risk their lives. Blacks and women were discriminated against. We fought wars that were never declared wars and gays had to live �in the closet�.  Was that a better world?  It seems to me that it is better to work toward love and acceptance instead of hatred and fear. Let�s progress, not regress.
