Promises in disguise

Sir, Subject: The dilapidated condition of the national highways, a promise in disguise. A couple of days ago, when I was returning back from Chandigarh to my college in Pilani after my Dusshera vacations, I noticed a board by the ruling political party on the national highway in Rohtak(Haryana) which read, ?Vikaas Chaumukhi, Jan-Jan Sukhi? meaning that there was an overall development due to which each person was living happily. But the condition in which things lay around me depicted a fallacy in each and every word of that statement. Now, who on this planet would call mud and hundreds of pebbles gutting out of the road a sign of development? And who would call tire-sized puddles spread all over the highway and every meter of the roadside littered with garbage an accomplishment? And to add a cherry to the pie, they have speed breakers after almost every 200 meters or so. I wish they knew that these speed breakers function the same way that their name suggests. What are they doing in a stretch of road where one is barely able to cross 20kmph? Does the government even realize that not all those who commute daily via this route are off road enthusiasts? Each road bump that I experienced made me more certain that soon a time will come when people would talk about this road in the past tense (maybe as the road of a thousand lies). The government might be shifting to an austerity mode, but still they have not experienced the painful travel that these so called roads offer. Each year, almost all parties promise to make conditions like this better as soon as they are elected. But rarely do we see anything happening once the election process is complete. This attitude of procrastination by the government is only to use it as a manifesto point in the next elections, promising the supporters that it will surely be developed once they win. Each year they promise, each year they defer. Are we stupid enough to fall prey to their faux pas again and again? Elections in Haryana are approaching. No time can be better than now to question the authorities about the games they have been playing in the false name of promises. We must pledge to get an answer this time. The fake austerity drive is not enough to brain wash us. We need real evidence that something is really being done by the government in the name of development and the time to get that evidence is right now. Sir, I would be highly grateful to you if you publish a letter focusing this point in your esteemed newspaper.
